Sadhguru wrote this one for the masses who wanted proper guidance in the areas of yoga. His videos circulating on the internet only managed to catch a gist of his preachings. Many asked him to consolidate said words into a book to facilitate easy reading. That’s what he did with Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide to Joy which takes you on a mystic’s sojourn toward the path of Yoga.
Yoga isn’t exactly what the TV portrays it to be. It is not just a series of impossible-looking exercises that the stereotype often confuses it with. It is so much more. A way of life, in fact, wherein the primal focus is ‘on being’ rather than ‘trying to be something’. You have to let go of everything that wants is gnawing at you to be uptight, and relax. Yoga is all about breathing, relaxing, and staying calm.
Ever since I started practicing it, I realized the possibilities it has for the human body. It allowed me to become calmer, more focused, and most important of all get rid of all the deadlines my mind had unknowingly created. Suddenly it feels that I have time in the world, and the time that I have requires my body to be more at rest.
The most important part of the book that helped me a lot was related to food. I have been finding it hard to understand the human digestive system and Sadhguru helped me a lot with that section. Knowing about the alimentary canal and what food were we actually supposed to eat, the real reason for chronic illnesses and how to get rid of the harmful stuff, etc. were read at a time that I needed them the most.
The book is strewn with simple Sadhanas or techniques that one could follow to be closer to nature. These techniques come after every teaching and are experiments that one needs to follow in order to truly understand and believe in their power.
The simplicity with which Sadhguru has garnered this piece of creation feels as if you are listening to him rather than reading. I highly recommend this piece of creation which has also turned into an international bestseller. The man himself is no less than a powerful source of information and listening to him makes you realize that he is bang on, if not on every, then most of the points related to the ways of nature.
A tremendous read imbued with simplicity. A highly recommended piece of work that will help you on your Yogic sojourn!
